We are hiring for multiple co-op/intern positions that vary between on-site and hybrid – students will be required to work at the Markham office on a schedule based on the needs of the hiring team.
Program Term
- This role is a 16-month position
- May 6, 2024 – August 29, 2025
- Must be returning to school following the internship
The Role
Meeting the demands of the fast-changing project schedule, the successful candidate will assist the team in delivering cutting edge ASIC designs on time with high quality. The successful candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm toward ASIC design, design verification, be a team player, a problem solver with independence, creativity and organizational skills.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide assistance and work with high-speed digital circuit designs from definition to implementation, synthesis, timing closure and other aspects of the ASIC flow.
- Low-level testing of ASIC hardware features using diagnostics, software tools, protocol/logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Debug of features that are not working properly, including running experiments, engaging with more senior engineers and/or designers, as well as coordinating testing efforts with other teams (validation/qualification, software, production, etc.).
- Own, maintain and improve multiple flows that ensure the quality of the design.
- Work with constrained-random simulation and formal verification techniques at block and/or sub-system level using state-of-the-art EDA tools.
- Suggesting and driving delivery of additional tools and/or processes that could improve team efficiency via mechanisms like automation or reduction of redundancies.
- Engagement in system-level debug/triage efforts.
- Documentation, including status reports and generation of test plans for future silicon revisions/projects.
What you’ll learn
- Details of the technical implementation of an industry-leading, high-speed communication protocol/interconnect.
- How to solve complex communication issues on this interface using a combination of data communications theory, application of engineering principles, interpretation of technical specifications and design implementation details, and experimental techniques.
- How to effectively engage with other technical staff to drive towards resolution on common issues, including strong development of interpersonal skills that will serve as a strong baseline for your future career.
- Develop your technical abilities and gain industry experience in high speed/low power digital design.
- Exposure to cutting edge EDA tools used in RTL design, simulation, verification and debug.
- Exposure to the latest design verification techniques, languages and tools (SystemVerilog, UVM, Verdi, VCS).
- Gain knowledge in overall computer architecture.
- Exposure to industry standard protocols and specifications (PCIe, xGMI, Ethernet, SATA, USB, AMBA).
- Practice script programming language to build and improve in-house tools.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic digital circuits and object-oriented programming is required.
- Knowledge of Verilog, System Verilog and C++ is a plus.
- Knowledge of PC system architecture is a plus.
- Basic UNIX knowledge is required, scripting is a plus.
- Possess problem solving and organizational skills with independence and creativity.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
- An eagerness to learn!
Academic Credentials:
3rd year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with strong records in relevant technical courses and projects
