SMTS SILICON DESIGN ENGINEER
We are looking for an adaptive, self-motivated engineer to join our growing GFX architecture team. As a key contributor, you will be part of a leading team to drive AMD's market leading PPA designs across AI/Machine Learning, Compute, and Discrete GPU gaming products. You will be involved with power modeling, analyzing workloads to optimize power, and researching features for next generation designs. The role requires a special combination of technical breadth, problem solving, and soft skills. The Power Architect is a cross-functional technical leader.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research new architectural features for next generation GFX IP that optimizes Performance-Power-Area (PPA) and transcends product goals
- Develop models in either C++ and/or System Verilog to validate PPA of new architectural features
- Write and deliver architectural specifications to development teams (HW, SW, Firmware, etc).
- Architect new GPU algorithms to improve PPA for rendering and compute workloads
- Analyze game traces from legacy designs to optimize PPA in future architectures
- Provide technical support for Silicon bring-up teams
- Provide micro-architecture level proposals and/or review proposals from other sources for PPA optimization
- Guide HW Design teams in evaluating and improving power efficiency of their implementations
- Work with teams throughout the company (Product and System Architects, RTL, PD, SW, Bring-up) to deliver best in class power solutions
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years of relevant work experience focused on computer architecture and power, with a strong understanding of the factors influencing power efficiency at chip, system, and product levels.
- Expert at tackling multi-variable problems via system level modeling, testing and characterization, trend analysis/projection, and model verification
- Computing and Graphics architecture
- Power architecture and design
- Creating power models to evaluate architectural tradeoffs with key workloads
- A drive to continuously learn and expand architectural breadth and depth
- Understands GPU power/performance, SW power architecture, and system-level trade-offs
- Graphics Shader behavior is a benefit
- OpenGL/OpenCL/D3D programming is a benefit
- RTL design and/or verification is a benefit
- Power tools and technologies is a benefit

- Accomplished listener who can analyze, abstract, communicate, and converge on the best ideas.
- Develop strong partnerships over time with program stakeholders across the organization and develpment partners outside the organization.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors in Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of experience or Masters in Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of experience or PhD in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of experience
- Mastery of principles of logic and circuit design, software and hardware principles and methods relevant to more complex systems and platforms.
