This multi-disciplinary team performs hands-on research and analysis and develops proof-of-concept prototypes to demonstrate and advance the state-of-the-art in embedded security. Our diverse set of sponsors and research objectives provide a wide variety of interesting work opportunities. </p><p></p><p></p><p><b>Roles and Responsibilities:</b></p><p>Engineers in this role will develop and apply their technical expertise to:</p><ul><li>Develop new approaches and countermeasures for emerging threats to embedded systems</li><li>Help develop prototypes (hardware and software) to demonstrate advanced capabilities</li><li>Perform hands-on security assessments of embedded systems</li><li>Develop software for interfacing with and controlling electronic lab equipment for data collection, measurement, and analysis</li><li>Contribute creative and innovative ideas to help shape internal research</li><li>Track, adapt, and apply academic and industry progress on the state-of-the-art in embedded security analysis and protection techniques to secure our sponsors’ systems</li><li>Collaborate with academic partners to improve embedded security education at our nation’s universities</li></ul><p></p><p></p><p><b>Minimum Qualifications</b><b>:</b></p><ul><li>BS and 5+ years of related experience, MS and 3+ years of related experience, or PhD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field</li><li>Must be US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a Secret security clearance</li><li>Software development: C/C++, python, rust</li><li>Expertise with one or more of the following technical areas:<ul><li>Signal and/or image processing; machine learning</li><li><span>Cryptography and security concepts such as key-agreement protocols, authentication, ciphering, etc.</span> </li><li>Computer architecture and embedded software development</li><li>FPGA development; experience with VHDL and/or Verilog</li><li>Board- and component-level instrumentation and measurement (e.g., capturing digital and analog signals via mixed-domain oscilloscopes)</li><li>Software-defined radio usage; wireless and/or network communications</li><li>Knowledge of common hardware components, packaging, and board-level integration</li><li>Technical understanding of circuits and PCB layout designs</li></ul></li></ul><ul><li>Experience with ONE or more embedded security topics, including but not limited to:<ul><li>Tear down and reverse engineering techniques for embedded systems (hardware interface capture and probing, RF and protocol analysis, board-level RE and modifications, side-channel analysis, fault induction, IoT penetration testing) </li><li>Invasive and semi-invasive attacks (and protection techniques) on integrated circuits (IC decapsulation, laser fault injection, photo emission analysis, thermal laser stimulation)</li><li>Implementation security attacks such as side-channel analysis and fault injection</li></ul></li></ul><p></p><p></p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li>BS and 8+ years of related experience, MS and 6+ years of related experience, or PhD degree and 3+ years of related experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field</li><li>Expertise with two or more of the technical areas listed above</li><li>Project and/or team leadership in an embedded security topic area (see above)</li><li>Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)</li></ul><p></p><p></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:left"><span>This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):</span></p>None<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:left"><span>This requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s):</span></p>Secret<p></p><p>Work Location Type:</p>Hybrid<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:left"><span>Subject to all federal and state laws, rules and regulations, MITRE requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
